Training Description:
This course aims to orient and discuss a diagnosis of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD).  We will focus on conceptualizing the biological and environmental underpinnings of ARFID and PFD. Utilizing Heidi Miller Speech (HMS) Feeding Therapy Protocol for Expanding Repertoire for Picky Eaters a Guide to Educate on How to Effectively Treat Picky Eaters and Individuals with ARFID, we will discuss exposure interventions to reduce symptomatology. Finally, we will address the common obstacles that interfere with progress like anxiety, avoidance and rigidity using a comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model. We will demonstrate how a Speech and Language Pathologist and Certified Oralfacial Myologist (SLP COM) and a DBT model can work collaboratively to build motivation and commitment to treatment interventions and decrease these obstacles. DBT is a comprehensive approach that includes change and acceptance strategies. Combining both disciplines addresses the inevitable struggle clients will have to make the changes. We will be presenting a shared case as well as additional cases to role play interventions.  For the Training Objectives and information about  CEs, please click here.
