Motivational Interviewing Training
What is Motivational Interviewing?
Motivational Interviewing, or MI, is a style of interacting with others that focuses on taking a collaborative and person-centered approach. The goal of Motivational Interviewing is to help elicit and strengthen the client’s motivation to make changes in his or her life. Motivational Interviewing can be helpful when working with people who are contemplating change, are ambivalent about change, or who have difficulty sustaining actions towards change.
What types of training are offered?
Introduction to Motivational Interviewing:
During the introductory MI training you will receive an introduction to the spirit and principles of MI. The training is an interactive experience and includes the use of didactic instruction, experiential activities, videos, and demonstrations. All participants will have the opportunity to both learn and practice their MI skills using role plays and real plays.
Advanced Motivational Interviewing training:
This training is appropriate for those who have already attended an introductory MI training and are looking to deepen their understanding and application of Motivational Interviewing. It is assumed that all attendees have a basic knowledge of MI spirit, theory, and techniques. The training will focus on strengthening skills, expanding and deepening an understanding of the theory of MI and its application.
