Dr. Megan Blanton

Dr. Megan Blanton is a clinical and counseling psychologist. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her master’s degree in special education from Fordham University, and her PhD. at the University of South Alabama. She completed her clinical internship year at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where she received specialized training in infant and child assessments for cognitive functioning and development, autism, language ability, and mental illness. Dr. Blanton has also has experience as a child, adult, and family therapist for clients with a range of concerns including suicidality, posttraumatic stress disorder, behavior problems (defiance, oppositionality, explosive behaviors), anxiety, panic attacks, borderline personality disorder, depression, substance use, and low self-esteem. Dr. Blanton is passionate not only about treating her clients, but also treating the systems that interact with children every day like schools and hospitals.  That is why, in addition to seeing clients, Dr. Blanton also conducts research with Rutgers University to help build trauma-informed school systems that support students and teachers across the state of New Jersey.

 

Prior to earning her doctorate degree in clinical and counseling psychology, Dr. Blanton taught high school biology in New York City for three years and English at private middle school in Cali, Colombia for one year. During this time, she witnessed firsthand the impact that trauma, mental illness, and substance use has on students’ academic, social, and emotional functioning. These experiences are what continue to drive her to be a healing presence in people’s lives. Dr. Blanton is fluent in English and Spanish and would be happy to work with you in either language.
